i been looking for the 400 but its taking forever on the auction and cost more then im willing to pay for...ive seen the 250 more in my range 80-90 .now the question is how would a 250 do with constant cast 4oz lures or weight?

It will cast them fine but line capacity wil be an issue unless you plan on using braided line.

its not the line that im worrying about..its more if the reel can handle the pressure its getting..like the review on swimbaits on this site..its pretty good info...i dont get is whats exactly screws up when using heavy lure or weight on a smaller reel...

I am no expert here but, the heavier baits could potentially wear down the gears & drag faster, and as mentioned it has less line capacity which could pose a problem with a larger fish making a run. Bigger baits require heavier mono or braid if you choose and a 250 size reel won't hold but a 100 yards or so of 25 pound line. A 400 size reel will also balance a big swimbait rod better which is important and give you the required power and line capacity to fight larger fish. I would use a 250 size reel for smaller baits such as jigs, worms, crankbaits and stuff like that (conventional bass lures) along with a 6'-6" or 7' rod but not on an 8 foot or better swimbait stick.

The gearing will handle the large swim baits. I have used a Chronarch to throw big baits in the past and never had a gear or drag failure. Now I use a CTE300 and it seems to be the perfect all around swim bait reel.

Me too on the CTE 300 although I've yet to get a hit when using mine.

good information bassapillar...thanks. looks like i wont be getting the 250. the 300 you guys mention is expensive! hehe.. but since you guys mention a 300 ive found a daiwa cvz-300...how would this hold? whats the drag # on the mug? (googling now) if its around 17#..like the 400 calcutta...that be great! ill let you guys know what i come with.

You should consider the Shimano Cardiff 300A. It has dartanium drags and should be pretty close to your price range, between $90-110... Plus I know a lot of guys on this site use that same reel for swimbaits.

I wouldn't cast 4 oz lures with my Trinidad 20! (Ok mabye I would, but I'd need a much heavier rod).

they both throw big baits. if you go with the 250, you pretty much have to fish it with spectra or else you will have line capacity issues which will effect your drag, casting distance, line retrieval, etc. So after you pay for teh spectra and the 250 you are already in the ct400 range so i would just stick with that. also, make sure you get the levelwind because the ct400s is a little too wide for me to comfortably guide the line in with my fingers all day.
