Has anyone ever used their standard freshwater trolling motor in saltwater? I've been fishing the bay alot and I see guys with trolling motors that are not designed for salt. Seems to work ok for them. I know minn kota has a saltwater version but I was just wondering it I could get by with a regular one and rinse it very well after each trip.

my expierence has always been if you thoroughly wash the motors after being in the salt they will be ok ,when i fished s.d.bay alot our motors were for fresh as well. I just took the boat to the carwash right after fishing.and when i got home i would hook the hose up to the(big) motor and flush it out for a couple of minutes to clean out the insides.
hope this helps,
Brian

Thanks for the response.
I'll probably be needing a new foot controlled motor soon anyway. If it gets destroyed, it'll just give me an excuse to get a new one :)
