Have a 20hp Johnson and was thinkin' of using muffs for water flow, instead of conventional 55 gal., drum. Not goin' to use for any extended period, just want ta' make sure the winter settin' won't cause hard starting (problems can definately ruin a good day, especially after unloading from trailer and she does'nt want to cooperate)!! Those muffs are fine just for starting. I've been using it for years and it's a lot easier than dragging out and filling a 55gal drum. Just make sure you fully cover the water intakes with the muffs.

Thanks for the responses. I was havin' problems locatin' the right "muffs" for my motor (1971 Johnson 20hp). Tempo is the only place that had them (say had, because there discontinued)however went to the place that has everything under the sun, good 'ol E-BAY!! Am goin' ta' use the blue 55 gallon barrel that are about 60% lighter (we use them for barrel racing, as in horse's)and cut it down to correct height and go with that. However, the flusher will be a back-up, just in case my "cane" breaks x( !!!! Hey, again I thank ya' for your come-backs! Have a good week-end. Tight lines produce releaseable fish. Thats all Ive ever used. I ran my 25 in saltwater 3 days a week for 8 years. First thing I did when I got home was flush the engine with freshwater using the muffs. Two things, make sure that when you start your engine that water is ejecting out the "pisser", if not stop engine immeidately and repostition muffs. And, keep an eye on the engine while flushing so that the muffs stay postioned and or dont fall off with out you knowing it. Those things are fine, no need for a 55 gallon workout.
