The factory spec on the reel is #20 for 250 yd. I would like to use it for throwing irons and #25 line is probably more suitable. Do you think 25# mono is too thick?

That is doable but you end up with about 190-200 yds of the 25#. Just don't backlash real bad or hook a tuna on the iron or you're done (no extra line if you have to cut out the 'lash or to handle the long runs of a tuna). Should be fine for bass and yellows though. 25# is definitely a better choice for tossing iron than 20#. Most guys use 30# and some up to 40#.

One thing to consider is that the daiwa uses japanese line diameters for their capacity (I think, I could be wrong on this one).

If you're not sure about what I mean read this article.

Yes, someone told me the capacity for this reel is actually 15# @ 250 yd not 20#.

kind of small for tossing iron, but a good reel for the bass and smaller tails- and the schoolie tuna- I like to toss iron on 30-40 lb., Trini or Torium 16 works pretty good- you want a 6:1 to grind it

Thanks for the replies. I already exchanged the reel for a Torium 16. Great service from Sav-On Tackle.
