has anyone used the shimano teramar rods for throwing swimbaits? i want to upgrade from my daiwa heartland big bait rod, but i dont want to empty my wallet. i am also planning to get a okuma induron 400. i'd love a calcutta, but i'm a basser on a budget. thanks - vince

Shimano has some new rods out just for throwing swimbaits now, I think they run $159 and they have 3 different ratings. A small, medium and large baits. Not to bad for the price

They would work but they seem a little too stiff throughout the rod and it would probably cause a few lost fish. Even though its different its kinda like throwing cranks on a heavy rod; you just end up ripping the hooks out of the fish' mouth.

If you want an awsome rod that wont hurt your wallet check out these.
They were disigned for throwing swimbaits. Most rods are just big flipping sticks or ocean rods that are labled swimbait rods. I know alot of guys like the softer rods but I dont. I button down the drag and crank in the big fish as fast as I can. If I know its uder ten I might let him fight or even jump but if its big I try my best to keep him from jumping and get him in the boat now.

thanks for all the feedback. i just saw the shimano crucial swimbait rods at tacklewarehouse. how are those? the x-heavy rod sounds nice for only $150.

The new Crucials are very nice. Although I haven't fished one yet, I plan on getting one soon.

rods great. i have the heavy action and it slings swimbaits as far as you can handle. caught a 42lb cat on it last night. fights like a camp. gives you good control over your fish yet it allows you to work your baits very nice.

what baits do you throw with the heavy crucial? i see its rated for up to 8" baits, but not sure if its accurate or ideal. would it handle a 9" heavy rubber bait at like 2-3ounces?

I've been throwing the Huddelston and 7" Osprey's on my Cructial and slammer type baits. It can handle some decent weight.
