Has anyone bought/tested one yet? Shimano's website doesn't have any info on them yet.

I have heard from a very "reliable" source, that they are awesome. Not for the fisherman who wants a light-weight finessy-type reel, they definetely appear to be a very tournament-friendly type of low-pro reel. Looks very durable.

I have one of those too, pretty nice and it cast's really, really well. The new sideplate feature is a little strange but overall I'm impressed. The drag is smooth and has good range and it has good power for a small reel. My biggest fish on it so far is 6 1/2 and it handled it fine.

Are those reels available to the public yet? Is there a release date on them.

Yea, the new Chronarch 100B versions are now on the shelves (as are the new magnesium 50 series Chronarchs) . You're in the Bay--Hi's Tackle in SF has them.

There are three versions of the 100 size reels: a 6.2:1 ratio, a 5.1:1 ratio and a 6.2:1 deeper spooled "saltwater" version. They're all Super Free and have aluminum frames + sideplates. The regular and cranking versions have low mass wiffle spools. Color is a plated gunmetal gray (as opposed to paint). Forged/nutless handles like the Calais and Scorpions too.

$269.99

They're pretty great but I'm still partial to the previous "A" versions...

that's cool. They appeared on Tacklewarehouse tonight too :) I'm not much on the 50 and 100 sized reels. If there's a 200 I'll drool over it for a bit :)

You can read about the new Chronarch MG at www.tackletour.com. There are some pictures there too for those who are interested.

To me, new chro 50 is the same as Japanese Shimano scorpion mg. Chro 50's weight is lighter than japanese scor mg, and looks very durable.

Yea, except for the lighter spool and externally adjustable brakes on the Scopion 100 Mg, they's basically the same.

Anyone notice that the new Chronarch B reel shares the same contour/lines and long snoot as the old tomato red Curado A?

put them both in your hand and you'll see the difference right away...

Sure, I know there's a world of difference. I'm just saying that the external lines of the new Chronarch B reel borrow heavily from the old Curado A reel (aka the 'tomato'), which came out way way way before the current green Curado B series. It's kind of an old retro look...

I know what you're trying to say and I'm sitting here holding both of them. The lines are similar but the Tomato is HUGE in your hand compared to the Chronarch. Too bad Shimano doesn't have parts for these old Curados anymore.

The new chronarch mg is awesome it casts super far and the drag is very smooth! combine it with a glx and it will allow you to fish with virtually zero effort. biggest fish so far on it for me is a seven and it held up really good drag wise. No complaints gonna buy 2 more
