Thanks Rob, like usual awesome guide!

Now I have something to work on. You mention possibly needing to replace the drag washer, is that something most tackle stores selling shimano reels have or is something you need to order from shimano.

Some tackle shops do stock spare reel parts. It's the kind of thing to call and ask about. This seems to be more common with saltwater shops in my experience, but I'm sure that some bass only shops stock spare reel parts as well.

If you want to sit on your butt at home and have it delivered (my preferred method lol) you can call Shimano at 1-877-577-0600 and order any spare part you need.

I'm pretty bad about servicing my reels but every time I do it adds a few feet to the cast and the drag gets back to being perfectly smooth and it makes it alll worth it :) Give these guides a try, I think you will be very happy with the outcome.

And if anything isn't clear, please put up a post or send me an email via the contact form so we can make them as simple and accurate as possible.

This is a great tool to have Rob, Thanks! Is there an "over the counter" type of oil that can be used in place of the Shimano oil you mention in the article? Same question on the grease....

Just had to say, I was going to have a couple of my reels sent out to Lakeforktacklerepair.com, being the off season they are fully booked up till after January.

I would recommend using the Shimano lubricants. They are designed for Shimano reels. The grease is about $5 and they will usually send you the oil for free. The grease container is enough to service about 10 reels maybe more. Call the Shimano number to order 877-577-0600.
