I am in the market to get a GPS. I bass fish mainly on lakes varying in size, but will most likely use it everywhere I go. Especially since I night fish during full moon periods, i'll be wanting to be able to find all my little sweet spots with the help of a GPS. I am on a budget, but don't want to get something out of date. But then again, I don't really need anything to fancy. I have looked at the Garmin GPS map 76. This is pretty upscale for me. Garmin also makes all those e-trex's. Does anybody have any recomendations for me, or any tips for buying a GPS?

You really want to get a marine model if you are on the water as they have features you will find handy. The screens of the eTrexs are pretty simple and lack info that a mariner needs. They seem to be more of a casual land user series. Go to Garmin and do a comparison chart of marine models--it's a great feature they have on the site. I have an older Garmin 12XL (more equivalent to their current 12) and I am stoked on it. The new software they have out is pretty cool as waypoints are now in folders so you don't have to scroll all thru them, amongst other things. The 76 is a nice model. Be sure you look at all the variations of a particular model as you might not want/use/afford all the features. The 76 ranges from $170 to 350 depending what you get.

i use a magellan sport trak map.....8mb on board. it goes for $199 but a i think they are running a $50 rebate so the net cost is $149. reasonable. you have to but the magellan detailed maps. the street maps are $99 as is the topo maps. both cover the entire US. works pretty well.
