About five or six years ago I was given a hardbait from Japan that I wasn't that impressed with, or better yet didn't understand. A few years later Manabu Kurita bagged the second largest bass from Japan at that time, 18.66 pounds. It was on a similar bait to the one I was given but much larger. That's when I decided to put more time into fishing this style of bait, but the bait I had was just too small for the size bass I was going to target. I could not buy any of the larger baits being built in Japan because they just were not available or they were way too expensive. Then finally two Japanese companies made them large, affordable and obtainable. Two years later I was SOLD!! It took me two years to realize what I had been missing out on for the last five years.
That entire time I had been hastling Rago to build one, he wasn't sold on the idea until I sent him a few photo's of Giant bass and stripers, or maybe it was Manabu's influence during his stay in Bishop. Anyway, Jerry started building the first proto's two years ago but because he was swamped with soft bait orders he couldnt close the deal.........until now, finally!!! Six or so sizes and body styles later, the first size is done. The slow sinking 9 incher. I have had the honor to test the bait and now know it's ready. Don O. has the first batch ready to ship and TW will soon follow.
For those who don't know, this is a "S" style bait that can be fished fast or slow. I prefer a stop and go which causes the bait to glide when stopped. It walks on it's own with just a strait retrieve, just add small twitches for a less subtle action. I hope those that are skeptical of this action stay that way!! ;)
