974, My First Hammer Color

Well I'm happy to announce that I finally have my own custom Big Hammer color :) :) You may look at it and wonder, what on earth is that?? But let me explain...

Every spring I get a lot of my big bed fish on 5" Big Hammer's. For the most part I fish the Invader color (green/chartreuse silver flake). But I've always wished that that color was a little easier to see, but also looked a little more realistic. I've been working with the guys at Hammer for a while now and this is the result:

Rob's Bluegill

The back is chartreuse so you can see it at depth or in off color water from the top. The side stripe is purple, which is a color commonly found in bluegill, and the belly is a natural shade of pale olive green with gold flake. I've looked through dozens of bluegill pictures, and that belly color is very common among all the shades and variations. The overall concept is that you are able to see the bait from above, but as the bait moves past the eye level of the bass, it sees primarily natural shades and colors. This also comes in handy because you can see the bait really well as it falls so that you can land it on the correct spot, but once the bait is on the bottom, you can shake it to roll in a way that the back faces away from the fish so the colors the fish sees are primarily natural.

As crazy as this sounds, I think another application for this bait could be super shallow grass bed fishing. If you're fishing grassbed fish in shallow water and they want the bait fast, you could burn this over the top and get a great visual on it while the fish that are coming up from underneath to ambush it see natural colors. I haven't tried this, but I can see it happening.

Anyway, I'm excited about the bait. Thanks for letting me share :)

Very cool concept. I see no reason it wont work great on bed fish and maybe even the delta in the grass.

Very nice, congrats. I can totally see that working well, very fishy looking. You just need to come up with a crazy name for it to catch peoples eye, something like "striped rainbow monkey", just as an example of course, that names taken ;-)

Thanks for the positive feedback. To me this bait makes a lot of sense, but I know it's not exactly a mainstream color so I was curious to see what people would think of it. The fact that no one said WTF is that??? so far is encouraging :)
