On July 12 the California Federation Central Cal region will be having it’s final tournament of the 2003 season at one of California’s premier lakes, Castaic Lake. The California Federation tournaments are great low pressure events that are a lot of fun to fish, especially for the non boater who actually has the right to fish their water half the day from the front of the boat. Also for anglers just getting into tournament fishing, this is a great way to earn Castaic Lake and also get some valuable tournament experience.
This event is also the last close event for Southern California Region anglers to fish for Travelers points, although that doesn’t prevent you Northern anglers from coming down and getting some travelers points also.
Castaic Lake has been on fire as of late with great fishing to be had with fish in pre spawn, spawn, post spawn and summer patterns. Fish are literally all over the place from 0’ to 35’ and it should take a big bag of fish to win this event.
The California Bass Federation, in an effort to grow this region, is allowing on the lake sign ups. We will be meeting at the Main Ramp gate promptly at 5:00AM. Entry fee for this event is $70 and there are $5 big fish, $10 option and $20 option. Federation tournaments require B.A.S.S. membership, California BASS Federation Membership and membership to a Federation Affiliated Club. (Note if you are not a federation member, you can join the Federation and the Southland Bass at the lake, Federation dues are $20 and Southland Bass dues are also $20)

Any truth to the rumor that it might be changed to Cachuma if the control of the lake changes over?

That was discussed, if the lake closed. But on June 23 the Board of Supervisors voted to keep the lake open until 8/31/03 when the state's budget is expected.
Thus, the tournament will be at Lake Castaic
