4174, And the Winner is!
Posted by swimbait, Mon Jun-12-06 11:42 AM
The actual combined weight of the 6 fish pictured in the weight guess contest was 62.35lbs. So, with a guess of 60.8lbs, the winner of the Okuma V-200 low profile reel is dogfish2! Len, please send me an email with your shipping addres via the contact form on the website here or send me a private message via the forum and I will have the reel, shirt, hat, and stickers sent from Okuma asap.

I have to note that Mr. John Lake had the closest guess at 62.00lbs but he's on the Okuma pro-staff and is a calfishing moderator so his guess was just for fun. Good guess though bud :)

Thanks to everyone who participated. Here's the individual fish weights in case you were wondering. Yes that's a 17 in the last pic :o

Fish 1 - 8.35lbs

Congrats!! Enjoy MY reel!x( Oh Well, next time!! (a calfishing.com tee shirt for 2nd runner up???) I was noticing that most of the weights were very LOW by comparison the the actual weight. I knew Rob would'nt have put a bunch of squeelers up there, so I fugured they'd each be at least around 9 or 10 lbs each,so 60 lbs +/- about 2 pounds was my initial guess. The "without going over" part made it ALOT tougher!! THANKS!! to Rob and OKUMA for the FUN!!! Lets do this more often, even if it's just for a spool of line or something.....maybe a BBZ-1?????? :P Just by being on calfishing.com you're ALL WINNERS!!!!!!!! Get The Net! -- Alex

Nice job on the guess, with really nothing to go by except the measuring tape on a couple of the fish. The angles were very deceiving thanks for the great contest!!!

My inital guesses were:

1. 4.17
2. 7.21
3. 9.12
4. 3.21
5. 9.10
6. 10.20

That's the last time I average the field then look for the biggest available hole in the direction my gut and statistical analysis tells me. My gut said +55# but statistics said 48.something. The biggest hole in the middle of the pack at the time was 49.1 to 50.69 so that's where I shot for.
I guess all you low guessers failed me! x( :+ Don't We know that Rob wouldn't put up a bunch of "also rans" when he's looking for a winner!

Tight lines,
Wade

Bassindon69,

Those bass that Rob had displayed were larger than the salmon we caught last week, except that Cambria's were larger. lol

You are welcome to try that Okuma next time we go for bass.....But you have to return it :D :D

Talk to later, buddy.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the contest Rob and Okuma! And, thanks for the acknowledgements, fellow fisherpersons.

I know from experience that it is very difficult to guess the weight of a bass because of the two-dimensional view of pictures and from the different camera angles. But, I did factor in the fact that Rob is a big-basser making the average fish around 10 lbs, inspite of the inclusion of one large smallie.

So, taking account of all factors and feeding them in a very complicated mathematical formular, I came up with this........

I went outside, threw out an acorn and a blind pig took 60.8 seconds to find it. Thus, my guess of 60.8# was based on that event.:D :9

Of course, it was just a lucky guess!!!!!! I am no better than any of you at guessing.

Rob's spot the latest "Bass Insider" was great video on "swimbaiting," enough to generate interest but not enough to give the "secrets." Only thing they forgot to do was to jerk the rod several times, keep it pointed upward }( }( , and yell and scream like they're going to have a heart attack (like you see on the Sat. morning fishing shows made for TV). Theirs was very professional and informative. Nice gong, Rob!

All of you guys make this forum interesting and entertaining. Hope to meet you on the water sometime.
