604, price of lead Posted by , Thu May-10-01 10:58 AM
Thinking of making my own jigs since I can't find anything weedless above 1/2 oz.
What's a reasonable price for lead?

Used tire weights can be had for free at most tire shops but you have to remove the steel inserts before melting or it's a major hassle. Also you might want to check into any pending laws about casting lead, before hand. The EPA is trying to get rid of it.

Thanks for the tire shop tip!
I can get 5-lb soft lead ingots for $1/lb and was wondering if this is a fair price...

Sounds a bit high to me, but I'm cheap. Year before last I could buy cast lead for $2/lb for pieces under 2oz, $1.50/lb for pieces 2-8oz, and $1/lb for pieces over 8oz. with $.10 for every brass eyelet. Now the guy doesn't cast any more, unfortunately.
