Went down to Big Corona yesterday after work to do a little surf fishing for a couple of hours. Used only 1” chartreuse grubs on 1/16 oz lead head. Managed to catch several small perch in about ½ hour. The waves were about 2 feet and there was lots of current. Went swimming after I got done fishing and when the water cleared up between sets I could see large schools of corbina, perch and small sharks. Could not believe the abundance of fish, which leads me to believe I need to improve my corbina techniques. I would appreciate any insight into fishing grubs and other lures in the surf. Has anyone tried carolina rigging a grub in the surf? I don’t think 1/16 oz is staying in the strike zone long enough to get the corbinas attention. Any feedback/input would be greatly appreciated!

Brett,
Carolina rigging is what I use when fishing small grubs but honestly, only a few of the corbina I get are caught on grubs. Yellowfin, more than their cousins, seem to like the lures more. I've also caught corbina on small spoons. If it's corbina you want, the sand crab is likely your best bet.
