aye zach how long have u been here?? good question though, i've been wondering about that.

What you have to do is put together a resume and send it to the company. Check www.ncbf.com and search for that topic on the message board. It's been asked a couple times there, along with what you should include in a resume. For bass fishing, it's stuff like tournament statistics, charity tournaments you've participated in, etc. Salwater is way tougher, that's why there's so few guys with saltwater sponsorships. Remember, companies are looking for somebody that can sell their product, not just somebody they want to give free stuff to.

Getting sponsored is an inexact science. I think people get sponsored for a lot of different reasons. I only have 2 sponsors. MS Slammer and Big Hammer/Fishco/Assalt. Both came basically from friends introducing me to the people at the companies and putting in a good word for me. MS Slammer and Big Hammer were two baits I already used and liked so that worked out really well.

As far as reasons why I got sponsored, John Lake and I had some good success fishing WON teams this year taking 2nd in the WONdering region. I also do this site and write a fair amount of articles about fishing. Things like that help in getting sponsored. So does being a good fisherman, but just being a good stick probably won't get you many sponors unless you can do a good job of promoting the products you are sponsored by.

I tried to hook up with Triple Fish line and had no luck at all, so you never know. Best advice, be professional, get your name out there, and meet as many people in the industry as you can. Good luck.

Good info above. In addition, folks need to realize they are representatives of the company. It helps to have some fishing skill but you really need to be a people-oriented person who is willing to help others and be an ambassadeur of goodwill. Tackle manufacturers are inundated with requests from guys wanting to be on prostaff (i.e. wanting free tackle) What can you offer the company? What's in it for them? Fish a lot, get visibilty and most of all, it's who you know--like in business, which it is.
