The sweeter the better. The canned corn is the preferred but any will work. Yes, our friend Bert is right. If you get caught with corn on your hook be prepared to pay a hefty fine. Fish like Trout can't digest the corn properly and end up dead, but Carp don't seem to have a problem with it. If you noticed in my first reply I used the word "oops" after corn as in "did I say that?". Now I don't wish to be the guy that says "Go ahead and throw this stick of TNT in that pond over yonder, just make sure Cleetus and Boss Hog don't see ya" but I use only what is necessary to catch the Carp. That includes a little chumming in an area where the Carp are holding. The Carp are like vaccums, they suck up everything and don't leave much of anything behind for other species. So when a school is feeding and they hit the area of corn, forget it. It's history. Now I know I'm justifying the use of corn here, but....... If you wish not to use it you can put together a dough of flour, cornmeal and honey. This will work but not as good as corn. I better quit on this corn issue before I get myself in trouble. Pan, just do the Catfish thing with the bass. Forget the Carp! lol.
