What do you freshy bass guys read? I think Bassmaster has gone soft--what about Bass West and Yamamoto's Inside Line--worth a subscription? Other ones you like? Thanks.

Bassmaster is still good, you just have to learn how to make what they say work for you. Most of their articles are based on the waters back east.

Yamamoto... :-( Unless you fish nothing but his baits, and don't mind adds about his baits on every other page...stay away.

Bass West...The only way to go! Very informative. They cover traditional and new techniques. They also cater to the West Coast, but don't leave out techniques that will work anywhere.

Bassin' Magazine is another add filled rag. Strike King this and Strike King that. Phooey :P

I also receive WON (week old news) :+

I just like to know what's going on around California and see the big fish pics. They cover everything...salt, trout, cats, bass even hunting.

Bass West used to be one of the best of the smaller circulation mags out there, then came the changes in management and format. Bass West USA, as it's now called, is more broad based in topics covered (which aint a bad thing) but I could do without all the Anglers Choice stats/results, especially the stats for back East. Anglers Choice is tied to the mag's ownership so I guess they gotta include all that filler. Still, the mag is a good read if you ever receive it--their track record for mailing out mags is horrible...

Yamamoto's Inside Line is actually a decent mag and worth subscribing to. Despite being published by Yamamoto, the content is pretty broad and not limited to their products as one would think. Their website has sample articles from the current issue to years past. Good focus on western waters as well...

The large circulation mags like Bassin aren't very good but you already know that.

SLM thanks for the info.

It's been a long time since I have been a subscriber to either Inside Line or Bass West. It sounds like they have both kinda done a 180? Not that that's a bad thing, but different then when I used to read them on a regular basis.

I did receive a free Bass West from TW recently and I see what you mean about the Anglers Choice. And on the other side, when I used to read Inside Line, they only had like 4 or 5 writers and they almost always covered different techniques relating to Yammies baits and what their tour pros were doing.

I only subscribe to WON and Bass West now. I think Bass West still has some good information in it. I really liked the article on sharpening hooks in the newest issue. They are both quality reads.

the one beef i have with won ,was that when my subscription expired and i didnt re-up . all of a sudden i start recieving junk mail from loreto,b.c. ,and most recently a mailing from washinton d.c. based conservation dealy, stating they basically got my info from that magazine and wants me to send them x amount.it discouraged me from wanting to want to reorder.which i was planning to do @the ventura fred hall tackle show.
thanks my 2 cents ,peace out,
brian

I guess most of you guys noticed that most magizines are just advertizments, buy this and that you never see any of the cool Ca. Handpouring companies or Swimbaits except for castaics in there. Mabey we will see a Calfishing mag in the future!! A side note has anyone ever watched Rollan Martin's TV show the whole thing is a commercial!

No doubt Rolland Martin catches as many big fish as anyone. On the dumbest lures too! He gets to fish those FL private farm ponds with tons of starving 10+ fish!

yeah, but Roland still owns 9 AOY titles on B.A.S.S., son! Guy is making money doing what he loves, just let the Barn's pad his wallet with the crap that he peddles (as I look at the tube of Mega Strike on my desk with his signature on it, DOH!), he still rips at fishing- He is the Babe Ruth of product whores, but it seems to work out pretty well for him. Oh yeah, I like Bass West (or my postman does, it never gets to my house!) and Inside Line; the Green Liar isn't worth the paper it's printed on, although I read it religiously as a grom (Dude, Irvine Lake is going OFF!). I can't believe the people at B.A.S.S. still print that Harry and Charlie cartoon, it was stupid when I was 12 and I can't imagine it has gotten better, pretty much sums up that mag.
