The rats are built the same with one exception one has a knocker. Both are made out of a rare hardwood with a figurative maple bottom. Hooks are owner 2X. Even though the baits have a nice action with a slow/medium retrieve I feel the best way to use them is; Throw at cover snap the rod fast (about two to two and a half time faster than a spook). This will give the rat a fast side-to-side action while it moves forward minimally. When you get good at it the bait will not move forward at all just side-to-side. Deadstick than repeat. The best rod for fishing cover is a Loomis MBR 7’ H or the Shimano Cumara 7”2” MH Xfast. To get the rat to have the above mentioned action 30# braid is essential.

I want one of your rats Henry ('course you knew this). I see a square bill and a round bill, do they both dig/dive the same? Would like to hear your thoughts on the two..

I'd love the OKUMA (not Shimano) Cayenne reel.

Before the Rats are complete they are pool tested with different lips. Even if I build two rats the same they retrieve different. I take the time and run each bait with different lips. I use the lip that gives the bait the most action. I have built rats that are just ok using one lip and have turned the bait to a winner by changing lips. Both baits wake equally well.

Sorry to let you down Henry. How could you pick me after I finished 2nd in a two man race last year...lol. Skeet was the only guy that I picked throughout the season that did anything. I tried picking favorites, guys that had a good history on the lake being fished, and I picked guys by my gut feeling.....none of which worked. Great job putting the league together Henry and thanks to you and everybody that donated great prizes! Hopefully we can all do it again next year and I can try to redeem myself.

Received my Cayenne reel on Friday, spooled it with 50 lb power pro and threw rattle traps with it on Saturday. No fish on the reel but it sure is smooth. Thank you Mark for donating this reel and thank you again Henry for organizing this league.
