18026, off to Coyote tomorrow
Posted by Mike in SJ, Tue Oct-05-10 07:40 PM
Well, it's been 5 years since I've been to Coyote or posted on this forum for that matter, and I'm gonna see if those 10 lbers are still biting for me. Had to sell the old boat when my daughter Gabby was born, but now that she is 5, I just got a new boat 2 weeks ago. I'll post tomorrow and let y'all know how it is out there. What's up Rob and Nico, been a long time and I lost my fishing buddy Chris. He'll be back in 2012. Wish me luck!!!:-)

Nice! Give us a report. Coyote isn't what it used to be, but it did kick out a few 40 lb limits for Rob and I this year :-)

So how is Coyote these days? I mean as far as getting on the lake? I want to bring the kickboat with me when we do another family trip to that area...When does the lake close down again for the winter?

Mike - great to hear from you.

The lake closes to all forms of boating on Oct 15 this year. Used to be you could kickboat or float tube during the closed months. It was one of the most enjoyable lakes during that time of year. Lots of peace, quiet, solitude and big bass. No more thanks to our friend the quagmire mussel.

When the ramp is open you can kickboat. The lake opens at 8am typically and you have to get inspected. Unfortunately Bryan, you're screwed because you live in a banned county, so you can never take your boat or kickboat there and fish.

never made it to coyote, but hit up calero for about 3 hours today. from about 11 till 2. not a nibble. then my back started throbbing so we left. i just wanted to get used to the new boat, so i got familiar with the boat and discovered i need to somehow, someway move the butt seat. either that or not even use it. i'm 6'1, but my legs are really short, like 30", so when the TM foot pedal is in the recessed hole, my leg doesn't fit. then if i pull the pedal out, the seat is in my way. im guessing the butt seat has never been removed, so i'll try and figure something out this week. any suggestions? mike

Some boats have two holes to mount the pedestal seat in. I know for sure that some Tritons have this. You might look in to the feasibility of adding another mount like this. If there's enough space, you could get a compatible mount from bass pro and not spend too much money to get it set up.

What kind of boat did you get?

it's a Ranger r-93. 20 ft with a merc 200 efi. pretty fast. i need to get a hot foot, a gps and deal with the butt seat situation and get a new cranking battery and i'm set. looking forward to some cooler weather and get on a good fall bite. i like your boat Rob, very nice. i decided not to go the financing way and just dished out the 8k for it. i also got a ford f250 tow vehicle, so i'll probably fish a few tournaments this year. i need to find a new fishing buddy though as Chris is still gone for 2 more years.:-(
