247, Castaic morning 3-29-00

Well, I've been throwing every bass lure I have (which isnt much) at a "school" of 5-12 pound bass that have been suspended off some structure at the lower lake. I decided to do it right and go up at 5 am and bought a half dozen waterdogs. I knew where the fish were so I made a looong cast with a waterdog and got hammered by a big fish on 4 pound test. Light line but these fish aren't smart-there brilliant. A nice fight for about 4 or 5 minutes and then I lipped a fat 8 or 9 pound bass. A fellow tuber saw me and came a little too close. The fish spooked. I could seee them but they knew what was up.The other guy never even saw the fish, I didnt mention anything. Hard to spot them down 12 or so feet - especially without polorized glasses. The rest of the the morning I harassed a couple bed fish but they werent interested. It was great to get a quality fish...its been months. Of course it was released. Unfortunately, a lot of big fish were killed during pre-spawn-according to mini-mart employees and friends. How much long can the lower lake sustain this presure? It's sad to say but its nothing like when I was a "kid". I hope it never turns into what the upper lake has become!
