I'm happy to say I've been dating a girl that's willing to come fishing with me. I've been eyeing Jennings for a while, and the article of Gash and Long that came out in the WON put me over the edge.

Beckie and I got to Jennings on Saturday afternoon, bringing the goods for a night of camping...We fished all Saturday afternoon for about 3 hours. I buzzed the banks looking for a giant locked on a bed. I think I was about 3-4 weeks too late for giants locked on beds. The water was about 65 degrees, and the only big fish (and they were huge!) were cruising and not locked. I finished the day throwing the Eagle--no love there.

After hitting up the Viejas Casino, and rockin' the Yukon!, we got up reasonably early and hit the water. Sunday was super crowded and trout fisherman abound. We did managed to get some small males to cooperate and eat our white Ikas. Beckie caught one, after we both nearly had a fit over it. She missed the fish numerous times before getting the hook in him!

Anywho, Jennings is rad. GREAT camping. Full hookups for $18/night. I saw the big girls on Sunday too, just cruising. It was hot out there...Again, I missed the prime time spawn bite...too late!

I think we all have one more shot at the big girls moving up on the local clear water lakes, how was the photo of Gash and Long with double fisted 10+ fish!! I know at LMV they have moved back off a few times, there are still some waiting to go.

Hey Bassnet,

I don't know man. The water temps are already mid 60s. I know the big girls seem to be not spawned yet, but I don't know. I wonder if they aren't locked at night, and then know to pull off in the daytime. These damn clearwater fish have been pounded for years, and I'm not 100% sure they follow the spawning protocols they do elsewhere in the country or in dirty water. San V is the same. I have yet to see a 5-7lb fish locked on a bed. Yet, they are all over the swimbait...

Maybe they are all out in really deep water 20-30 feet, doing the spawn. I don't know. I'm really skeptical about it. I also wonder if the big girls didn't spawn back in February, out deep or something.

Great article -- maybe I'll convert from ocean fishing to lake fishing. I still want some fish to fry.

Cheryl,

Hello! OK, I'm gonna hook up some saltwater fish, and bring them over. Drink some Sols and eat fish tacos!
