4894, Adjusting Paper Graph?
Posted by Jeff, Mon Jul-15-02 01:43 AM
I have an Lowrance X-16 paper graph that came with my boat and need to know how to adjust it to get the best pictures. I have never used a paper graph before, so I am unfamiliar with them. What do I look for when making adjustments? Paper speeds? Any help would be appreciated.

Get the Don Iovino video,You can probably rent it at hok line and sinker call and find out I know they sell it at bass pro shops and it will make everything clear to you on Paper,Lcd,and the old flasher style graphs.

I don't know much about paper graphs but when Mike Shaw and I were fishing I asked him about it and he showed me. It looked very straightforward. He just adjusted the knobs until he got a crisp reading. Since there were only 2 or 3 knobs you could probably just figure it out with trial and error. Don't know about paper speeds.

Jeff,
Years ago I had an Eagle papergraph and I found that running the unit full bore on the paperspeed gave me the best results, pretty much the same as LCD units. Due to the paper usage, I only used the paper to initially graph out an area, switching over to a LCD when actually fishing the spot. The inside of the unit gets dirty (burnt paper) and don't trailer your boat with the unit mounted. The paper will loosen up, the stylus can fall out, and you can break the case from the rode vibration. Eventually, you get used to the whirly bird sound.

If you can locate the video by Don Iovino, you will learn more than you need to know about those old paper graphs. He has probably spent more time looking at an old lowrance paper graph screen than anyone else around. The tape has all the details to get it dialed in. Try your local tackle store and see if they can inquire as to if he still has some available. He sells out of his garage so they should be able to order one for you if its available.
Good luck, there are very few units that give as good of a picture as the old X-16's.
