Me and a fellow kayak fisherman are headed for Santa Margarita this Sunday for a week of fishing. What is the best bet on bass? When I was at the lake in early April,it was still cool and breezy;the shallow flat next to the swimming pool looked like a good spot once things warmed up a tad.Does it get any action?I have heard going back to the narrows is a good spot.Any recent info out there? Scott
I have heard good things coming from the swimming pool cove and from white oak. Mike Shaw has had two 5 fish days this past week throwing the 9" slammer with fish to 6lbs. I would also look for topwater to be starting directly across from whiteoak in the shallow flats areas over there. Start up shallow in the morning and work out deeper to locate them. In the afternoon I have found the fish will often move back up shallow as it warms up. Evening Pop-r bite can get really good this time of year. Use a skitter pop in shad or a big rio rico.
