yeah, you need to go to the end of the upper lake because i heard that they are all over there. (the end meaning where you are unable to go past the trespassing fence. Good luck :)!!!

Near the East Launch Ramp, there has only been Trout caught, with the last winter storm that rolled through ((around Late December early January)) everything around the ELR had highfin'd it deep, cept the Trout. With the current storm that is rolling through ((today is Wednesday January 24th, 2001)) I believe that the stripers are still holding deep, avoiding the cold. The northern side of the Lake may be catching ((It does receive more sunlight than any other portion of the lake)), however I have no confirmed reports of fish being taken, there's also a rumor that fishing the Marina at night using bloodworms is also catching, however, the Upper Lake is closed at sundown and one must park on a hidden road to avoid the local Sheriff. It is a trespassing fine if caught.

By the Intake valve, near the WestLR a moderate, school of Bass was seen however, fishing there is dangerous ((the ground is Clay, and during the rain becomes a muddy mush)) and it is trespassing ((Fine of 300$))

Catch 'em and Release 'em
You give a man a fish he is fed for a day,
You teach a man to fish he is happy when he fishes,
You give a man a Mr.Phish he is happy....Period.

I appreciate the messages.I went up there last week and fished my old school ossprey trout hard body in the 9 inch model. Hooked up on a 20 pound striper and landed it after about 5 minutes.I fished the face of the dam from my boat right next to the water system or watever it is. Practice catch and release even on the sripes. Each year there is fewer and fewer caught.

The DFG is actually looking to eliminate, the Stripers from Castaic. The Stripers had succk in through the Aqueduct and is severely, damaging Castaic's reputation for Large MouthBass. In essence, Castaic's role as a tournmant lake is rather dwindling because the stripers are so ravenous when they compete for food with the trophy Largemouth bass. Please remember, you need a striper sticked to fish Striper. Tho the sticker is meant, for Ocean Striper's a Striper is a striper.

Prior to about 10 years ago, largemouth Bass that were nearing the World Record level kept coming from Castaic. It was predicted that the next World Record bass would come from Castaic, however once the Stripers entered the scene the Largies began to lose out to the more AGGRESIVE fish.

Sincerely,

I Personally enjoy cathing big old stripers over a largemouth any day. I really dont care if the D.F.G wants to get rid of them. Its a great game fish no matter what anyone says.

Has anyone ever tried Quail lake out of Gorman? I stopped there once on my way to San Bernardino via Palmdale. Some guy had 2 Stripers in the 18-24" range on 'chovies, but I didn't get bit in an hour with a white jig. Anyway, I was just wondering if that might be a way to make the next visit with the Mom-and-sis-in-law a little better.

Tght lines,
Wade

I have fished there a few times. I have caught a few nice catfish but the only luck ive had on the stripes was a follow up on my ossprey hard body trout lure.

Approximately what size was the follower and the cats. I try not to chase catfish if I don't think I have a good chance at a 10#+.

the chaser was probalyy 8 or so. It definately had some decent size. The cats run anywhere from 3-10 pounds. Its all about luck.

I caught the 17-7 striper two weeks ago at Castaic. We were trolling deep, in the 40+ foot range with big 11" lures that look like trout. The big one can be any where, especially on the points. I saw another guy trolling pick up a small bass trolling 11 colors of leadcore. Go out there and be persistant,
cast, troll or what ever. Big baits catch big fish.

ROB,
DO YOU TROLL WITH LEAD CORE OR DOWNRIGGER? I ONCE TALKED TO A GUY THAT CAUGHT 7 OR 8 NICE STRIPERS TROLLING WITH DOWN RIGGER.
I FISHED THE DAM TUES. 2/26 AFTER THE TROUT PLANT FOR NADA.
BUY THE WAY, ARE YOU THE FELLOW IN THE BASS TRACKER BOAT?
