With the weather projected to be 70 degrees I knew who my fishing partner would be on Saturday. My wife joined me again this week and we both agreed to keep the dog home. Hard to set the hook when you are pulling a 90 lb. Lab into the boat after she took an unexpected dip for the 5th time!!! We fished 5 of the usual spots (rocky shorelines, fairly steep drops, from 20 to 30 ft depths) from 7:30 to 1:30. We wound up with 15 bass (1 smallie) while split shotting off the bottom. No size today as they all ran from 1 to 2 lb. Lost at least a dozen others in this time. I have to admit that today I was not #1. My wife landed 8 bass while I had 7. At 1:30 I was further behind (4 to 8) when we started striper fishing for 1 hour with out any success. We then switched to trout trolling for the next 1.5 hours. At 4 PM I was desperate and hit 2 spots I saved for an emergency. At the first spot I landed 2 quick bass to make it 6 to 8. I moved to my last spot and picked up one real quick. At 4:55 I got slammed. I set the hook only to feel a fish being dragged through a bush. Well the bush won! It was now 5 PM and time to go. My better half keeps the trophy for the day with a final count in her favor of 8 to 7 (she also caught a Sacramento pike (??) so in reality she beat me by 2. Can’t wait for the spring, when the fish get active!!!

"Sacto Pike" would that be what they're calling Sqawfish these days?

Tight lines,
