Fished Irvine Lake this past Sunday, targeting bass only. Got on the water by 6:45 and boated over to the flats area. Started looking around in shallow water about 4' and saw a few bass, nothing big. My friend in the back seat landed one on a plastic worm pitched into the weeds in about 1' of water. I was pitching a senko in a little deeper water about 6' until my friend quickly landed another tossing shallow. I then started pitching into shallow water and was rewarded with 2 missed bites and one breakoff before I landed my first bass of the season! We proceeded to work down the shore past the barbed wire fence that goes into the lake picking off a few more fish, if I were to guess, I think we worked only about 500 yards of shore line. The water started getting deeper as we worked toward the back end of the flats area so we decided to fish the cliffs area. I started tossing a jig and picked up 3 more, nothing big but healthy looking fish. Worked the cliffs area all the way to rocky point were I had to call it a day a little after 11am, had promised the family a bbq. In a little more than 4 hours of fishing my friend and me got a total of 12 bass, 4 on senko(my first senko fish), 5 plastic worm, 3 on jig. It was fun, I plan on going back this weekend to put in a full day this time! Water temp was about 64 and clean.
P.S. The trout fishing looked off the hook, we saw many trollers hooking up all over the place.
