13190, Summerland 2/13

I started off this morning fishing Santa Claus Lane in the rain but didnt have any luck. Apparently neither did any of the 3 other guys I saw there, so by 9 am I left and headed for Summerland. Things were lot different there. I was using a carolina rig with a 3/8 ounce weight, 6# main line, and 4# leader. And my good old motor oil and red fleck grubs. I was using Pro cure calico juice, or should I say a mixture of what little there was left in the plastic bottle mixed with lots of WD40. Shaken, not stirred!!! I would cast deep and within the first few cranks get big hits, when I miss them the smaller perch in the shallow waters would take it. Overall I had about 18 perch in the 8-10 inch range, only 2 were about 3 inches long. At least 3 times I got bit by what I think were halibuts. Twice my grubs were short bit in half, and the third my grub, hook, and all were cleanly bit off. And I did catch one 18 inch guitarfish. All in all it was a fun day. I think I will return in the morning and throw nothing but a 3 inch swimbait, a halibut sounds nice!!! If I get lucky enough to catch a halibut I will post a pic. Stay safe and happy fishing!!!
