5038, flourocarbon leader for halibut

Me and my buddy went halibut fishing Santa Monica Bay last friday and ended up with 5 keepers - one 20 pounder. Also we caught a dozen shorts and a dozen or so sand bass. our goal was to test flourocarbon line vs regular mono. May be lucky but I fished 2 rods with flourocarbon 12 pound leader and he used 20 pound mono leader and I caught 4 out of the 5 keeper halibut and the majority of the shorts. At one point he said - Damn that stuff works. We were both using squid.
In the florida keys where I fish a lot, all the guides have switched over and swear by flourocarbon. Who knows... It's expensive, but hey, anyway I can get an advantage over those babies I'll take it. Anyone else try it recently?
