7835, Awesome bassing--Dana Wharf 9/25 Posted by fongster, Wed Sep-25-02 01:31 PM
Did the 10am-3pm 1/2 day with Capt. Brian on the Sum Fun. Load was light--maybe 13 people. If you knew how to flyline in the weeds you scored well. There were only 4 of us who could do this and we got 25 to 30-plus calicos each this way. Even the "straight down" folks got a few bass. Water was 68 degrees up saltcreek way. Current was downhill and in but would turn off and on. Bait was nice hook size 'chovies and a very few small 'dines. All cured very well. Lots of "larger" pinheads for chum. Sunny with thin hurricane clouds. Many dink barries and a couple martian-like kelp fish, too. Awesome day.
Edit: forgot to mention we saw several cruising yellows in the kelp. I and another fellow got bit but didn't hook up. It was like, "wait anchovies don't swim that fast and that ain't a bass bite!".
