Jeff,
I haven't been to El Capitan in a little while but I would expect the bite to be getting good for the halibut by now. We have done well in the cove to the east of the campgrounds. It's sheltered in there and the halibut tend to hang out in the kelp strands and grass beds towards the back. We've done well on the 4" silver grey fish traps and 4" olive big hammers in there. Good luck out there!

I just want to say thanks for the info on El Capitan. Also that was our first trip in salt. It was great. We plan on going out more often. We caught a few calicos, needlefish on the rubber. Our next trip probably will be out of Leo Carrillo. I have a friend who skin dives and he said that should be good. Anyway thanks alot for the inspiration as most of my friends think its crazy going out in tubes. Its a blast!!!!

I would like to float tube in saltwater bays, however, I just cant get past the thought of being part of the food chain to some real big fish...Have any of you guys been brushed by any sharks. I know they have been known to frequent bays and harbors.....fishon...Pappy

Hey Guys,
Glad to hear you did ok at El Cap. Yeah float tubing in the ocean can be a little crazy at times, but the added adventure can get your heart pumping like seeing a tuna boil so it's a kick. Leo Carillo should be fun for you guys. There's lots of good kelp beds and boiler rocks down there. Boiler rock calico basically kick ass!

Iv'e tubed from El Cap to San Diego and it's really not a big deal fishing in the ocean on a tube. Those little four man boat deals are much more dangerous than a tube because of their instablity. etc. You gotta get a little amount of balls and just charge it!
--Late
--fisherman_11
