I got out of work at a decent time for once (5:15pm) and met up with the FishingDentist and another friend for some surf fishing in SM. There were dime sized crabs all over the place (not too many softies) and the guys had a cup full by the time I got there. I tied on a 1.5" motoroil and surprisingly the grub was outfishing the bait today. My first 3 casts resulted in 2 BSP and 1 YFC. I didn't get fish on every cast but it was pretty open after that. We must have totaled about 60 BSP's 1 YFC and 1 small corbina. The biggest perch was only about 10" but it was still a HUGE stress reliever after a long week at work! We fished near the 22nd lifeguard tower.

Yo Catfish,
What was the average size of the BSP? I fish the Manhattan/Hermosa Bch area and the perch I've been catching are on the small side (6 in. range).

The average size was pretty small here too (6"). I think the spawn is over and only the smallish fish are around. Hopefully the corbina will kick into full swing soon.
