So what do you guys think about saltwater float tubing now? I was kinda thinking of this when tubing with Leapin'Bass a couple years ago off Leadbetter (SB was considered more GW territory than OC, lol). With the GWs down here, I wonder about Laguna...

Every time I have fished from a tube in the big pond, the creepy feeling of being a step lower on the food chain has crossed my mind! Just the fact that you are handcuffed and can't paddle away or ride one to the beach, makes me feel like a human Pop-R!
Kind of funny, as much as those docile pups at Trails didn't faze me, they crossed my mind a lot while surfing crap 204 today-

That's a big part of why I got a Kickboat! I floattubed for 2 years in the Salt and always felt like a Magnum sized Pop-R. I think the Kboat looks less like a seal, although it may look like 2. Atleast if they attack a pontoon, I'm off to the side, instead of "DEAD center".
Tight lines,

You guys have a better chance at winning the lottery than being bit by a shark. I am more afraid of getting taken out by current or kicking back against the wind then getting nabbed by a GW!

Nice, I guess you haven't been out in the lineup at Trails lately? Nobody is scared of being chewed, guys are paddling with these fish every day. But you have a way better chance of having a misunderstanding with these locals then you would ever have of winning the lotto- They are there every day, that is a fact- Sure, if you live in Kansas the odds are you won't run into a shark- the numbers tell us that. But if you are one of the 10 or so guys that surf Trail 1 on a regular basis and share the line up with multiple whites, even though they are pups (that doesn't include the 15'+ the military filmed in the same area in July), your lotto theory goes down the drain. No worries, hopefully a few 909ers will stay off Uppers this fall. It's all good. More waves for me, not that you would have been in the water anyway...

Grom, I may see you in the water if this weak SW improves- did you get in the water today? I skipped it- I'll check it in the a.m.- it's always cool to see guys like A.I., Kelly, Taj, Occy, etc., in the line-up- best show on earth!

dont bag on 909 surfers man. I know most of them are kooks but some of us just love the ocean and arent able to move out yet.( It sucks being 14 and living an hour inland! )

Calicokid, no worries- but if you show up with a mullet and sponge, we may have some issues!! Just kidding- the fact that you charge from that far is a really good thing, it's all about getting in the water and having fun.

Grom, you make it down the path this morning? I saw the scores from Kelly and Bruce's heat, must have been some good ones coming through- Fongster, it's all about hijacking a thread!!

Hoping it lays down outside for Saturday

I beg to differ! You see you are talking about a specific location not waters in general. I can guarantee you this, there are alot more people hitting the lottery on the West coast than there are getting attacked by sharks. Even at "Trails" there arent attacks on a consistent base.(Or at all from what I have heard!) This year there was only one attack in California waters, how many people do you think won the lottery in California this year. You do the math. Lets be realistic, shark attacks on humans are very very uncommon even if they are present in the water!! Thanks for your opinion though. LOL

Hey David,
Haven't seen any reports for you lately, fishing much? Craig and I haven't been out for about a month. Looking to get out soon, Eric's getting another tourney ready. Hope to see you out there.

Don

Good point, obviously more people win the lotto then get hit by sharks, no doubt. But if you put 18 million people in the water twice a week, in a couple of key locations, would it be different? Probably not, as 18 million guys at Trails would force every ocean critter to pick a new spot. I wonder if you put 50 divers in the water at the Farallon Islands twice a week if you might have a couple more "lottery winners"? Shoots, you'd have a few, for sure. Obviously Trails is not the Farallons, and these pups are docile, but there is still a risk. Not many people get killed by lightening, but try running around the golf course with your 7 iron in the middle of a thunder storm. I'm just stoked I finally got to see a white shark, I have waited my whole life to see one. Very cool.

Good point as well. There are many different scenarios that could come into play but as an avid "Shark Donut Fisherman" I have a more OPTIMISTIC perception on this issue for obvious reasons. But as a surfer that has had the chance to witness one of these beautiful creatures in the flesh you must have a whole different view on the GW's. I can respect that. I too would love to see one of these "pups" upclose, just dont know if I want to be on a surf board or in a tube when I do!!! Take it easy.

Right on, Don- I totally agree with you about the risk factor, it's not going to happen, but... Good job on the waves, Grom- we were making macs off Lowers this morning, it looked pretty good, I'm sure those guys are killing it- did you watch the contest? Bruce took down his big bro, then advanced to the quarters, pretty cool. Slater can ake over the lead for the title if he wins it, which is very possible- facing Neco tomorrow, always a tough draw!! I wanted to go check it tomorrow, but I'm going fishing- got a bruiser yellow today

Hey C.K. Danny ever tell you the story of how he almost sank the Gamefish? I was working on the Reel Fun when it happened. It was a little sketchy watching them try to pump it and find the leak (turned out his baitpump was pumping water straight into the hold) and Danny was inside the engine room the whole time. I thought for sure he'd end up going under with the boat. USCG helicopter saved the day when they dropped a pump out him. How'd like working with him?
