After making bait at the bait buffet, got to the jetty about 7 am. Fished on the beach for about an hour with no pick-up. First fish was at 8:30, a sting ray. After that fished inside the channel. Got pick up, swing, fish-on for about 20 seconds. Fish spit the hook with the dead bait still on. While reeling it in, I saw my bait about five feet from the rocks a big hali came up and took off with it. Too bad the fish headed straight into the rocks. Caught one hali at that spot, about 17 inches. Moved towards the middle of the jetty. Toss out a 7 inch smelt. As soon as it hit bottom got picked up. Let it run with the bait for about 30 second. Got it in, 22 inch hali (released). Toss out another smelt. 10 seconds after hitting the bottom got picked up again. Swing and fish-on. This one was definately legal. Violent headshakes and run. Had to jump to different rocks trying to keep the hali from going under the rocks. Finally got him up (25 inch, kept). The hali that rocked me earlier was bigger than the 25 "er. Caught another short after that, about 15 inches. Left about 11. Wind was blowing pretty good, also I ran out of bait. Met a buddy at the parking. Talked to him for a while. He ask me if I wanted to stay but I was getting hungry so I told him no. Besides he only got 6 smelts (not enough).
