13995, Santa Cruz Boardwalk & New Brighton

While visiting my kids I took them to Santa Cruz Boardwalk Sat 5/13. After riding the rides too much and yet not enough, we walked out on the pier. On the Boardwalk side at the near shore corner I saw a fairly large school of anchovies that was mostly spread out. Only a very few (probably) Stripers seemed to pay them any attention. I got my rod and casted for close to an hour but only had 1 hit and that only grabbed the tail of my 4" Big Hammer.
Sun. 5/14 We went to New Brighton beach and there was a flock of 30+ Pelicans lazily working bait out deeper. I threw swimbaits for about 2 hours but I was mostly keeping an eye on the kids so I didn't expect much. I did see a large shovelnose caught and kept, a bat-ray released and possibly a small Thresher (tail-lobe came 1'-18" out of the water) lost.
Just thought I'd let you guys know.
Tight lines,
Wade
