14456, Tuesday's child

Woke up at 2am like I do every night these days,…scratching welts. Been housebound for 8 days do to a poison oak outbreak. Couldn’t take it anymore, so after a fresh coat of Caladryl, I started loading gear onto the boat. I need to get outside at all cost.

Fished the kelp trees from 5:30 to 10:30am. Lot’s of life, but very tough to get bit, water was really clear. I did not get bit for the first 3 hours. If there’s one thing I learned this year, it is down sizing works, even though I don’t like it. I switched to a 1/2oz TJW and 12lb test. After a while I got bit.

Eventually I caught another one.

Fish were popping in the canopy so I stuck with the 1/2ozer and just pitched it over and over. Sure enough I finally got my third bite. When I set the hook I saw this 3D mound go shooting across the kelp at 90 mph, much like Bugs Bunny when he burrows under ground, except this mound was taking my line with it. The fish got stuck, so I PUUUUUULLLED a hard as I could and he came loose. Now the battle was back on and with a little luck, I won!!

Money shot. I was now a little more content and very, very itchy so I went home.
