I love this time of year!! Long sleeves come out. The trailer parking lot gets empty again. Water and skies clear up. Largemouth, stripers, and halibut go on eating binges. Sandbass are stacking up in the bays....LOVE IT!!!

Woke up this morning with Megadeth’s Rattlehead playing load and clear in my mind. I knew it was gonna be a good day. Got to Zuniga just before sunrise. 64 degrees. Water was clear. Tide was ripping. Grabbed a 1-1/4oz Jetty Worm(red/green) juiced it up good and threw it on the rocks. Got a tap, ignored it. Got a second tap, ignored it. Got a third tap and swung hard! Game on! Instant full bendo and 20lb test leaking off the reel. Slam the TM into reverse and start walking toward the net with folded over rod.

Calico pushing 6lbs in the boat!!

Got a few more fish off the rocks, including a halibut that may have been legal but was promptly released, then about 30 minutes later, luck struck again...

5lb sandbass in the boat!! Same lure.

I knew this was not normal, so I switched over to 1.5oz chartreuse Spinbomb to cover more water quicker, and for the next hour or two, I had a field day on the 2-4lb bass. All the while bonito are crashing bait and jumping out of the water all over the mouth of the bay. Having had a good run on the bass, I put down the bass gear and picked up the silly rod and for the next couple of hours I enjoyed harassing the bonito and cudas.

2 words...Le git. The wind came out early and I wasn’t into dealing with it. I made a quick kelp drift of off PL, banged a couple more calicos, and went home early.

hi Mr. Fishtrix
First of all, your reports are excellent like always. Those are some beautiful bass you're holding above :)

I was wondering if I could encourage you to post your reports in the new reports section. Since your reports are mainly ocean, the easy way to find the locations you are interested in would be to view by location type like here:

http://www.calfishing.com/loc/all/type.html

If there are places you fish that I don't have listed, I would love to add them for you so that you can continue to add your wonderful reports. You could reply to this post or send me an email via the contact form.

Another thing I have been struggling with is - what about reports where people don't want to give the location. A dilemma. For example, I can understand why you don't say exactly where your San Diego creek fishing locations are. I'm wondering if you have any ideas for me on that? A good solution is not coming to mind right away.

I usually make reports on SD bay, Mission Bay, Zungia jetty(SD bay) and Pt Loma kelp.

Probably won't see many creek reports anymore. You've seen on creek report, you've seen them all. I still hike a lot but rarely report it. Beside I've cut my internet time down by about 90% these days.

Follow up report. Tuesday morning. SD bay- Day 2.

Launched at 4:30am with 2 other anglers. Water was freakishly clear. Bonitos and bait are all but gone. We hammered the jetties all morning. No toady bass this time, but lot’s of nice bass in the 15-20” range. Plenty of sculpin and rock fish including one huge one and a couple keeper halis.
