Brian and I fished on the Stardust today with a pretty full load of 38 anglers. The weather was sunny with
patchy low clouds and calm winds early. We started out on some flats off Carpenteria in 70 feet of water but
things were pretty slow with Brian getting a 14" sand bass and a brown rockfish and myself a small sculpin.
After a while Jason made a move out to the 4-mile reef and on my first drop I nailed a 5 pound red. One
more nice red was boated along with some miscellaneous rockfish, sculpin, and quite a few short ling cod.
Once that spot stopped biting we moved again to a nearby stone and again on my first drop I nailed another
red a tad bigger than the first one. It came up the last fish in a big tangle involving another nice red and a
short ling. It was a kick because there were 6-7 hookups all at once on some nice fish. This was the best stop
of the day and a dozen or so QUALITY reds were put in the boat along with more short lings, some brown
rockcod, and some barberpoles. Brian got another nice brown rockfish. I wound up winning the pot by a hair
with my second red, gave it all to the crew and headed for home. What a great day on the water.
