Although many online try to find just the 'right' rod
and line and jig and tide and wind and current and
bait and way to hold your mouth into the wind........

I feel that the biggest hint I can give comes from an
old sales saying:

"The harder I work, the luckier I get..."

Translated into fish talk, the more time on the water,
the more chances you will have to connect.

Having said this, I do always try to find, (and use) the factors
that will maximise my success rate, but the bottom
line is -----------


GET OUT THERE AND WET A LINE!

There are many, many days where I jump out of my car,
throw my kayak into the water and catch the last 10
minutes of fishable light, just to get 10 minutes of
fishing time in. Some times I dont get bit.... others
well, you have read about them. If I were you, I
would do the math, figure out that it takes 8 minutes
to drive to and from work to the beach, that leaves 44
minutes to run to the beach and fish at lunch. Even
if you spend 5 minutes each way, changin into boots,
shorts and a teeshirt, well, that still leaves you
with 34 minutes of fishing time. do this 3 times a
week, and you have just added an hour and a half of
fishing into your schedule. The new stairs should be
finished soon so that should help.

I used to do this during school and work to scratch
out 30 minutes a day of diving, surfing and fishing.
Every little bit helps, every cast is one cast closer
to getting that 25 lb halibut or WSB.........

Right on, excellent post! I catch my fix on the freshwater bass on my lunchbreak, and always try to fit a surf before or usually after work. The occasional midweek after work fish on the big pond helps, too! Nothing beats time on the water.

This is great advice. I do ask many questions at this site because it is good to compare notes with experienced locals when one is new to an area. However, I fish whenever I can, even if the "signs" are not right. Some of the most rewarding fishing is when the signs are not right, you are using a technique that is contrary to the usual advice, and still you are catching fish.

Also, sometimes experienced anglers at this site disagree about a technique or tackle and an interesting thread develops as views are exchanged back and forth and everyone learns, experienced and novice alike.

However, this is still great advice.
