Fished Shelter yesterday from 7am-11:30. Steve was supposed to go out, but he got the flu. His friend Brian from a local yak dealer made it though. Steve showed up, dropped off some baits, then went home, deciding it wasn't worth it. It almost wasn't. It was really cold, the water felt about 55 deg. My feet were iceblocks the whole time. Air wasn't too bad, but the water was so cold I never shed my jackets. I started off with a bang, nailing a sandy that was around 5#. I then picked the rest of the day, finishing with 8 or so fish. Nothing big after the first one, one short too. Brian started very slow, I don't think he had one for the first 2 hours. Then he found his grove and ended with about 8 also, getting five in the last 1/2hr.

Mix was about 50/50 spots to sandies. No real hot color, though I think Steve's brownish one did the best. I tried something new also. I threw a brown and orange jig, with a watermelon Brush Hog trailer. I got tons of good bites, but just couldn't stick one. I think I need to trim the brush guard and use a stiffer rod if I want to use jigs from the tube. The watermelon Brush Hog did produce a couple for me by itself. In fact I hooked a real nice fish that bit the Hog. But, the hook broke just under the barb. Last week that 6 bent my hook straight as I shook it off. But, I'e never broke a hook. Would've liked to have seen that fish. Overall, slow, but not too bad. We only had a 2' tide swing resulting in almost no water moving most of the time. This is probably why they weren't eating. Will try again next weekend though. In fact with 4 days off, I might get in a few sessions. Brian?

Hey, Ed. How far out are you guys? In the moorings, inside of them or out out in the channel? Thanks.

Sorry David, Christmas has been way too busy.

I'm a little hesitant to share now, as I just found out I'll be at the SDBBT?. Besides, the fish seem to move from week to week. But, if you email me I'll share some general hints. Will you be on Larry's boat, or are you taking yours?

I don't blame you for the hush-hush if you are fishing it too. I will be on my rig w/ Yutaka and we will be in the money this year. I am prefishing the place at least two times before the tourney so we'll have a game plan down no prob.

I don't mind sharing sharing some info, I would just prefer to do it via email. I also just found out there is only two person teams for the tourney. I know it's a long shot; but if you know anyone who has a boat and needs a partner, I'm available. I'll probably relinquish my spot to the person sponsoring us, seems only fair.
