Can you say Big surf!, me and my brother Scott went on a surf perching safari today! We started out at our favorite beach in Oxnard only to get out butts kicked by big waves with little to no period between them, after about ten minutes of this we decide to head up towards Santa Barbara to see if we could find some fishable surf. First stop was padaro lane in Carpinteria kinda near santaclaus land, as soon as we got in the water it was instant on the ½-3/4 lb perches, but that bite was over in about 10 minutes? So after about a half an hour of beating the dead horse we head up to summerland beach and beat that up for 45min or so, I caught no fish there but my bro got a couple, so then back down to loon point for nada other than the horror of coming around a corner and finding a naked dude sunning himself on the beach (we did not know this was a nude beach, we have never fished it before) So after lunch at taco bell we hit my brothers new secret honey hole in the Ventura ( he’s been getting a lot of perches to 14in the last few days) he calls them jurrasic perch! And due to catching the last of the negative low tide the spot only produced smaller fish. Five beaches in two counties in 6 hrs !

Totals for the day: 18 mixed perch to 3/4lb walleye/ barred mix all caught on 1/12-2in motor oil & redflake mojo grubs with calico cocktail on them.

There was some surf today...I decided to hit it...it wasn't huge but was a straight west and pretty consistent and fun! I noticed a sand crab bed (one of the first since fall)when I was paddling out and sure enough...a corbina brushed against my leg...so there are a few around. Watch out for the naked guys...maybe next time there will be some naked women there to help with the "scenery". Good deal on the perch...sounds like you did pretty good.
