Does anybody know if there are any links to find line class records for saltwater? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

IGFA does not give out records information online. At least not for free. It costs $35 for a regular membership and that comes complete with records book.

Is there any particular species you are looking for. I would be happy to help out if that's the case.

I was wondering what is the 16lb line class record for a Calico Bass.
Thank you for the help.

Here you go Mike...

This is taken from the 2002 IGFA records book.

Calico Bass:

4 lb. line class = 7 lb. - 2 oz.
6 lb. line class = 8 lb. - 9 oz.
8 lb. line class = 8 lb. - 2 oz.
12 lb. line class = 10 lb. - 12 oz.
16 lb. line class = 11 lb. - 12 oz.
20 lb. line class = 10 lb. - 4 oz.

The saltwater flyfishing catagory for Calico Bass is wide open. The largest fish in that catagory is 6 lb. - 1 oz. on 16# tippet. The 8# tippet catagory looks the most promising with a fish that only goes 2 lb. - 8 oz. or the 4# tippet catagory with a fish that goes 1 lb. - 9 oz.

Food for thought...

Good luck in your quest! :-)

Hey Outrage. I'm not fully familiar with all the line class records for Calico but isn't the official world record Calico a fish that went about 14 lbs.? Either caught from Catalina or the Laguna area within the last 5-10 yrs, I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong or was that fish caught on heavier line than the ones you mentioned so you didn't bring it up. I just thought you could clarify this for me. I wasn't totally positive and like Mike, I couldn't find it with previous attempts on the net. Thanks.

OK guys... here is the skinny.

You guys are absolutely correct!

Mike asked for line class and that is why you didn't see me post the "All Tackle" record for calico bass. All Tackle is a different catagory and I have no idea why this all tackle record was not also a line class record. Often times they are. There could be a number of reasons why it wasn't.

IGFA All TACKLE RECORD FOR CALICO BASS:

Caught by Thomas Murphy on Oct. 2, 1993
Newport Beach, CA
14 lbs. - 7 oz.

Surprisingly (if I recall correctly) it was caught from the Newport Harbor jetty. Not sure if it was South or North jetty.
