8267, Question about reel cleaning Posted by Aztecwin, Wed Nov-13-02 04:42 PM
Hey Guys,
I surf fish an average of about 10 hours a week. Sand, salt and the rest. Although I take alot of pride in my gear I'm concerned about how often I should take my Shimano Spinners in to be cleaned.
How often do you guys think its neccessary? Twice a year... every 4 months? More? Thanks for any info.
Tight Lines!

Actually,
if you clean your gear every time you get home from surf fishing and lube it, i dont believe you have to bring it in very frequently, i bring mine in every 3 or 4 months..depends....
hope the info helps.. aaron

When I'm finished for the day, I normally rinse off my gear and apply a coat of Salt-x to the exterior of the reel. With my rods, I rinse with fresh water and shoot with a little lemon pledge on them. Do you tear down your reels and lube after every venture into the surf?
If thats what it takes, then I need to take my Stradic down soon.
Thanks.

well, i dont actually unscrew the reel and lube it, but that might be a good idea.... i just add some on the drag put some in the crank shaft etc.... i try not get very expensive and nice reels to fish the surf (especially baitcasters).... but, that's only me..:-)
hope the info helps, aaron
