Say you are moving from one spot to another. The new spot you are going to is a long flat point that you always catch fish on, especially one particular spot on the point. My question is, do you go straight to the sweet spot and fish away from it or fish your way to it?

I like to approach my "sweet spot" and not make any cast until I get in what I believe is the perfect position for the conditions, and make a few well placed casts. After the first few casts on a spot I will continue to fish that spot but my cast will be what I believe to be lower percentage casts. Not that it always works out and sometimes I catch on the lower percentage casts, but I try to approach the few sweet spots I have found to maximize my results.

I go straight to the good cast for the most part.

Sometimes I make a cast or two before I'm in position, but those casts are always to the side, maybe in very shallow water. The important part is that the first time the fish on that point see my lure is when I've lined up for the perfect cast.

With this being said, I don't always approach my best spots from the same angle. I like switching it up every now and then, and sometimes it pays off big. My biggest Don Pedro fish came by casting directly at the shoreline and reeling straight out into open water, when every other fish on that point had come reeling uphill near the bottom.

I usually creep up and hit it first with a good cast, and then fish away from it, and if I do not get anything, I come back in an hour or so and hit it from a totally different angle with a different bait. At Pedro and McClure time of day is a huge deal and the prime angle changes over the course of a day and also depending on the weather conditions. Every lake has local daily wind conditions during a stable weather pattern and the fish position themselves differently as it changes over the course of a day, this is especially true for the really big spotted bass.
