That fish does have some interesting characteristics that don't look totally spot-like to me.

Well, I was fishin a lake that has redeyes, spots, smallmouth, and largemouth. The local clubs here have a pot for "biggest redeye" at each tournament. I have caught lots of spots and a few redeye in my day, and I have a feeling this one might be a redeye. A trout eatin redeye.
If it is a redeye, it is definitely a state record, and pushin in on the world record, but I had no livewell with me.
What are ya'lls opinions?

I think you should request Maury Povich do a DNA test to determine paternity.
Three things strike me about that fish.
1. The white behind the eyeball in the first photo. That doesn't seem like a spotted bass trait.
2. The size and shape of the gill plate. Just doesn't look "spot" to me.
3. The darker colored scales on the belly. Spots do show that sometimes but it feels like a redeye trait as well.
Maybe mom was a spot and dad was a redeye? Maybe it's just a huge redeye. Did you weight it?

No weight. I would guess around 5 though? World record seems to be inconsistent, but either way i think this is a tad smaller. But definitely a state record.
This is the second one I have caught. I will keep the next one. If it is, then I can get it certified, if it's a spot, then I just took a spot out of the lake - darn :)
