12076, Dead Floater awarded lake record!!
Posted by newmoonbite, Thu Feb-09-12 01:56 PM
So I received a phone call this past Saturday from my good friend Ben Lorencz, he tells me a giant bass died and was floating near the bank at Shadow. He tells me it looked to be 18 plus............. then he tells me how a 13 year old kid decided to snag it and check it out. Ben pulled his boat and decides to check it out too. The kid then decided to gut the fish after taking a picture of it as if he caught it. Ben thought nothing of it, he's just a kid. After the kid was done with it he put the fish in the trash. Ben pulled it from the trash for some photo's. He sent me the photo's that night, I thought BUMMER, dead giant.

Now it gets interesting. I get a email this morning that claims Shadow has a new lake record. Check it out,......... bummer :(

Guess this will be a great life lesson about lying or stretching the truth.

Let's see,
The fish had grey eyes... because it was dead.
The fish didn't fight.....because it was dead.
The fish didn't swim away.because it was dead.
He caught a catfish, trout, and kept the bass? Uhhhh...

I don't even know what to say. Haven't posted in a long time, but had to on this one

The best thing that could happen with this story is if it didn't get too overblown. 13 year old kids are... 13 years old. Lake records at 80 acre lakes are lake records on ... 80 acre lakes.

This isn't the Bassmasters Classic. Probably just a kid on his bike who will realize one day that he got a little too excited and did something regrettable.

The voice of reason, again, Rob... And I basically agree with you... Although, I can't help but wonder if, along with the boy being just 13, it's also partly a personality thing... Because, when I was 13, I would've never thought of, much less done, something like that (and I'm sure that would also apply to most of my friends)... Maybe it's just a one-time thing... But, what if it's a personality trait and/or how he was raised (or not)?... What might he be willing to do in the future, in the name of attention, glory, fame?...

am i mistaken or wouldn't that fish be a new junior world record as well, beating cody peirce's 17lb fish?

edit: thats assuming he did weigh/measure it and what not.

With the crap I have seen lately , I don't put nothing past anyone.
The things people do to be on top is unreal. Age means nothing.

Maybe some day he will man up and tell the truth and make it right. We will have to wait and see how his conscious eats at him over the years.

That's good. The guy who holds the current record passed away a few years ago and it feels right that he would still hold it. I met him at the lake a few times but never got to know him. He fished there a ton and deserves to have it.
