12174, Bass jump upside down

Watching the gopro has taught me something. Bass, and big bass in particular, jump upside down. Virtually every pic I take off the gopro of the fish in mid air reveals the bass completely upside down.

This brings in to question the idea of holding the rod tip down. Holding the tip down works on small bass. Once a bass gets to be about 7lbs, it's hard to keep it from jumping. 10lb bass, usually impossible, unless you've got a huge swimbait in it's face and you're straight winding it in on the surface.

I remember years ago watching Dean Rojas landing a fish and when it jumped he stuck his rod up in the air instead of down toward the water. If you watch the guys fishing MLF some of them do this too. Not everyone, but some.

It's something to think on.

How about the tarpon guys that drop the rod tip when they jump? Wouldn't want to experiment on a big bass though.
