So here it is. The Generic Trout. I'm pretty impressed overall. Here is my take so far without having thrown it. I'll update after I get a chance to heave it around.

Good Points:

It's got the right hook setup in my opinion. The colors are awesome, very realisitc. The bill looks like it's wide enough to give the bait some kick unlike the Castaic Hardbait trout. The tail is replaceable with what is probably a 9" Fin-s-Fish. The eye is very small so you might not need to use a snap. The bait has a very thin profile which I think could show the fish something different than the other big trout baits. And the fins are just plain cool. I don't know how on earth Jerry Rago made the fins like they are. They appear to be cut from the same wooden blank as the bait.

Bad Points:

The stock hooks are the right size but not the sharpest, I'll probably replace them. Even though the fins are very cool, I'd be kinda concerned if I bounced it off a rock (which I have been known to do). I have heard that the paint job doesn't last very long and I would suspect that is true. I may overcoat mine with something if it's wearing off too much.

But overall, this is a fish catcher, no doubt about it. I can't wait to give it a good chucking and see what comes up. Here fishy fishy fishy fishy.

I used the generic trout last week at castaic , the action is impressive it does not swim like the MS Slammer or the AC lure its swims like a non injured trout under water up to 8' deep I think if the fish are hitting on top use the MS Slammer if ther not use the generic trout but be careful dont lose it $99 dollars is alot of money.

Where did you plunk down your 99 bucks? I am very impressed by the profile! I might play with the tail and I will surely get Marlin to suggest an overcoat for the paint as I have a half dozen ruined paint jobs laying all over my garage. The curse of being semi-color blind combined with no talent for painting.

That's a good question. I hate swimming as a general rule, but if I felt like I could get it back and it was plenty warm, I might. I put my head half way under water to get my castaic baby bass back once when Jamon and I were fishing at Margarita in my boat I got it snagged on some piece of rope. And I carried my float tube about a mile once at Chabot to get back to a spot where I lost a slammer in a submerged tree the day before. I'll go to pretty great lenghts to get a bait back as long as I wasn't risking my life or anything.
