5666, Durability on Huddlestons?
Posted by itsajackal, Mon Jan-24-05 04:09 PM
Initially I was going to get 2 ROF12 baits, but then decided that it couldn't hurt to have something that goes shallower, so I started to consider the ROF5, but I've never seen the baits thrown in real life, although they look great, so I don't really feel like shelling out the money for 4 baits without trying them. So, my question is, how many fish can I expect to catch per bait? Basically if it works as good as it looks I'll probably want to get more, but I'd prefer to just get 1 ROF5 and an ROF12 to start out if it's durable enough that I can continue to catch fish while I'm trying to acquire more baits.

In rubber swimbaits, the huddleston is the most durable I can think of. If it gets a little tear you can either super glue gel it back together or use pvc glue. I heard some guys saying they got over 40 fish on one bait. I'd expect more like 15 to 25 fish per bait. Of course a disaster could happen and a fish bites the tail off or something, but the rubber is definitely the durable type. The paint on the baits being produced now is basically bonded to the lure and won't come off at all. It's legit, I'd get 4 if you have the $. I think I'm up to 6 now myself ;)

4 it is then ;) I'm planning to use Owner 2/0 2X hooks since I have some already, but what size split rings (I guess I'll use the Hyper Wires, better safe than sorry) should I be using on them? And is the wire/crimp for the stinger something that I can get at Home Depot or something?

Yes the Huddleston swimabits are very durable. They will get small tears in them as Swimbait suggested but a little Pro Glue and you are back in business. I currently own about 11 of these swimbaits in all the ratings. My favorite is the ROF12 and on 1 bait have caught over 50 fish on it before I finally retired it to the garage wall. The second bait has now caught close to 25 fish and is still in remarkable shape. So go head and buy whatever you want they are worth the money!

I too also use the Owner 2X stinger hooks for my ROF 5 and stinger hooks on my other models. The steel cable can be bought at any tackle shop that sells saltwater gear.

Hope this helps
