HOw do you guys fish senkos I fish them on a baitcasting set up , I run out of patience,they takes so long to fall, I'm wondering if they would be better on spinning gear, You would need to set the hook hard, the plastic is so thick.

I fished them on 8 lb test on my light 1/16th to 1/4 rated Loomis spinning rod at ClearLake last year in early April and had no problem on the hook set issue. We averaged 27 pounds for our best 5 all week long and the 14 year old I had with me on my last day Caught one just over 10 pounds. We used the larger Senkos with a number 5 EWG and the smaller Senkos we used a #3 EWG hook. Pretty effective bait up there and I'm about 3 weeks from useing them at Cachuma.The reason I use a spinning rod when I worm fish is I'm faster on the hook set with my right hand....My .02.....Kelly

8lb test at Clear Lake? That's pretty nuts. I have resorted to 6lb there and caught a few fish on it, but I was pretty nervous doing it. Spinning rods are just fine for senkos. Some people prefer them for it.

The plastic is really soft on the Senkos making the hook set easier, they also don't last very long because of it. Make sure you rig the EWG hook texPOSED, that way the hook tip is laying along the top of the bait and you don't have to go throught the whole worm on the hookset.

It looks like Ken, Rob and Keldawg covered the tackle pretty good. I concur with their thinking, and like Ken I like to rig 'em texposed. I think spinning gear would be fine, although I prefer baitcasting. As far as working them, there are many ways. One way I found to be effective is to throw it out, let it sink to the bottom and then give it a sharp jerk every 30 seconds or so and let it sink back down. This takes alot of patience. It took me awhile to realize that just because you're not moving your rod constantly doesn't mean that you're not fishing. This method almost feels like you're fishing with bait because you're not really doing much, but I found it to be highly effective. Just remember- Senkos+patience= Big fishies hehe.-Phil
