7646, My first Huddleston Fish

I've been chucking the hudd for the last year, mostly at DVL. I've never had more sucess than a few follows from some pigs, but never got any love on the huddleston. Yesterday morning before work, I finally got my first hudd fish out here in the Coachella valley shore fishing at Lake Cahuilla. Stuck this one on my first cast, and farmed one that must have went 8 or 9 about an hour after landing the first one. Nothing that huge, but my best bass in the last year and a half.

One thing about the Hudd at DVL.

I really think you're better off throwing something bigger. While that may sound like a formula for less bites, look at those DVL trout. Big, full finned, and good looking, pretty much the opposite of what the Hudd is trying to immitate. Don't get me wrong, the Hudd is probably the bait I throw most and is just awesome, but think about the situation. Same thing at LMV. I can't buy a bite on the Hudd but bigger stuff with more action gets the job done.

that's a good point and i've actually thought about that, i've been contemplating getting a bigger raptor or the trout tool- i'm just not too fond of strictly surface swimbaits.

What alternate suggestions would you make for swimbaits bigger than the huddleston? I've only seen those soft pour castaic's outside of the Rago stuff, and those castaic's look low confidence compared to the realism of the hudd. I think the old Deluxebow would be the obvious choice, but those things seem impossible to come by.

Yah, I know what you mean about buying that expensive of a bait for just covering the surface. 10" Stocker Trout, Rago Live Soft trout, the big Ospreys, and I know it would suck to count it down to any kind of depth, but the 10" steelhead Raptor they have on TW looks an AWFUL lot like a DVL trout. Hope this helps. Other people probably have some good suggestions too.

I thought this guy I saw on Basscenter this morning looked familiar. Sure enough it's the same guy. Congrats on your PB but one ounce short of 10lbs? Ouch! x(

i agree with calico kid, EVERYONE at DVL throws the hudd, so its basically a lost cause, find something bigger and that fewer people have.....which leaves the expensive baits haha.
